WHAT IS THIS CHRIST-MASS?

It is important to point out that God's word gives us not the slightest idea of the time of year Jesus was born. This is not an accident. The festival which people call Christmas is completely man-made and has no place whatsoever in Christianity.

The event which Roman Catholics call the 'mass' is also completely man-made and has no place in Christianity.

The third commandment states: "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain..." This means that to use the name of God in any way which he has not sanctioned is presumptuous and sinful, even blasphemous.

The Christ-mass festival has its origins in ancient paganism where revelry, gluttony, drunkenness and gift-giving was celebrated. Of course in those days it went by a different name.

It's nice to have a time of year when everyone is on holiday and comes together to have meals and socialize, but we err greatly if we try to drag God's name into it and turn it into a pseudo-religious festival.

By all means, give presents, eat well, enjoy - but please - let's leave God's name out of it - unless it's according to scripture.

  1. That's when you focus on the background. Strip away the mass part, the history of the pagan festival, and you have a day to rejoice in the birth of Jesus Christ. Granted it seems the West is more into the false and pagan add-ons, but don't let it get on top of it and wrestle the day back wholly for the side of darkness.

  2. But what is the significance of the 25 of December? Why choose a random day and decide that it's the day to celebrate the birth of Christ? Don't you see that this principle is the very one which created the errors of the papacy - and every other false religion.

  3. You have a point, certainly, that the December 25th randomness principle isn't the way we should use the Holy Bible in general. But I think God is pleased that the world's focus is on Jesus' birth one day a year, and perhaps it being at the same time as the pagans feast and get drunk and deliberately misunderstand Christmas only highlights the way human beings purposefully attempt to ignore Jesus and block Him out whilst at the same time they freely take what He gives them without giving Him thanks.

  4. Ah, that's the question - is God pleased that "the world's focus is on Jesus' birth one day a year"? Is God pleased with us making up the rules, or does he wish us to follow his rules?
